One of the best parts of being a photographer in the Port Angeles area is the number of outdoor locations that are perfect for family photos. Whether it’s the beauty of Olympic National Park, a meadow, or the shoreline of the beach, these spots are great for pictures and a perfect setting for letting kids be kids. A favorite for many families is the beach, where little ones can run free, splash in the water, and explore nature while I capture those candid moments. When kids are allowed to play and be themselves, it creates a relaxed atmosphere, and the photos naturally reflect your family’s unique dynamic.

Coordinating outfits for a family photo session can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. One of my top tips is to keep it simple. Neutrals are always a great choice—they create a timeless look and keep the focus on your family’s connection rather than the clothes. If you’re feeling seasonal, you can also choose colors that reflect the time of year, like warm earth tones in the fall or soft pastels in the spring.

Whatever you decide, the most important thing is that everyone feels comfortable and confident. When you’re at ease, it shows in the photos.
