It’s hard for me to put into words how much I love boudoir photography but I’m going to try and also give a little background on my journey with boudoir. I have been photographing boudoir sessions for women all over Washington state since about 2014. It started out as something I offered to my brides who booked me as their wedding photographer. In about 2016 it branched off into a separate business with my wedding planner friends Bixby+Pine called Apostrophe&Co where we hosted pop up boudoir events in different places (Seattle and Tacoma mostly but also Palm Springs!) and had a blast doing these women empowerment events with hair and makeup, treats, drinks, styling, and a really fun photo shoot! After doing that with them for a couple years, a launched the boudoir side of my business Flame by Sam where I focused mainly on individual boudoir experiences with women in the Seattle and Tacoma areas.
What I love about doing boudoir photography is that women come into the studio for so many different reasons. Some do boudoir as a wedding gift for their soon-to-be husband. Sometimes it’s a birthday, Valentine’s Day, Christmas or anniversary gift. Sometimes it’s purely just to celebrate themselves and capture who they are and their bodies at this particular point in their lives. I’ve had women come in after having babies, leaving partners, losing weight or gaining weight. It’s the perfect boost of confidence and reminder that no matter what is going on in life, you deserve to feel beautiful. There are so many different reasons to book a boudoir shoot and every single time, women leave the studio feeling empowered, confident and ready to take on anything. I feel so lucky that I get to offer this awesome experience to my clients!
This particular session was with a former bride of mine who wanted to surprise her husband with a boudoir album for his birthday! She came into the studio in Tacoma, WA and had hair and makeup done by Gracie and we had so much fun creating these images! I love doing this really minimalist boudoir style that focuses on the woman in the photo without any distractions. This studio that I shoot at has the most beautiful natural light and some different spots/wall colors that allow us to get a variety of looks during one session. I have my clients bring in 3-4 outfits to shoot in and I loved what this client chose to wear!
