Booking a boudoir session is a powerful way to celebrate yourself, your confidence, and the season of life you are in. Whether you are planning a meaningful gift, celebrating a milestone, or simply wanting to do something special for yourself, a boudoir experience is about embracing who you are right now.
As a Seattle boudoir photographer, one of the biggest things I hear from clients before their session is, “I’m excited, but I’m nervous.” That feeling is completely normal. Most people are not used to being in front of a professional camera, especially in a more intimate setting. The good news is that you do not need to know how to pose, have modeling experience, or look a certain way to have an incredible boudoir session.
Your only job is to show up as yourself. The rest is guided for you.
One of the best parts of preparing for your boudoir session is choosing outfits that make you feel beautiful. Choose pieces that make you feel like the most confident version of yourself, whether that’s a favorite bodysuit, a color you love wearing, a delicate lace robe, or a timeless black corset. The most beautiful images come from outfits that feel authentic to you, so wear what makes you feel comfortable, confident, and completely yourself.

Professional hair and makeup can be a wonderful addition to your session, but if you’re getting ready yourself, keep your look true to you. Style your hair the way you normally would for a date night or special occasion, whether that’s loose waves, straight, or your natural curls. For makeup, don’t be afraid to go a little bolder than you normally would. Soft glam makeup often translates to very natural on camera, so a little extra definition in your eyes, lashes, and lips photographs beautifully.
If you plan to use self tanner or get a spray tan, stick with a product you already know and love. Your boudoir session isn’t the time to experiment with something new. In the days leading up to your session, exfoliate, moisturize, and drink plenty of water. Hydrated skin has a natural glow and photographs beautifully.
Before your session, choose small details that help you feel polished and confident. If you are having your hair and makeup done or driving to the studio, wear loose, comfortable clothing like a robe, oversized sweater, or button up shirt to avoid leaving marks on your skin.
Your hands will be featured throughout your session, so clean, polished nails can make a big difference. Choose a color that complements your outfits without being distracting. Neutral shades, soft pinks, white, or a classic red are all timeless options.
When it comes to shoes, there is no need to bring heels unless you have a specific pair you love or want to include in a few photos. Most of your session will be photographed barefoot, creating a natural, elegant look that keeps the focus on you.
The best thing you can do the night before your boudoir session is take care of yourself. Get a good night’s sleep, drink plenty of water, and eat a nourishing meal before your session so you feel energized and your skin looks its best. Arriving well rested, hydrated, and relaxed will help you feel more confident and ready to enjoy the experience.

If you are unsure where to start with your wardrobe, a simple black corset is always a beautiful choice. Black is timeless, flattering, and creates a classic look that feels both elegant and empowering.
A black corset photographs beautifully because it creates shape, highlights details, and allows the focus to stay on you. It can be styled in so many different ways, from a more dramatic and glamorous look with heels and statement accessories to a softer, romantic feel paired with a robe or delicate jewelry.
For many clients, a black corset is the perfect first outfit because it feels elevated while still being comfortable and approachable. It is a piece that allows you to step into your confidence without feeling like you have to become someone else.
One of the biggest misconceptions about boudoir photography is that you need to already know how to look natural in front of the camera. You do not.
As your photographer, I will guide you through posing, movement, and expressions throughout your entire session. I will help you find angles that feel comfortable and natural while creating images that feel confident and authentic.
Many clients walk in feeling nervous and leave saying, “That was so much easier than I expected.”

While the final images are something you will treasure, the experience itself is often the most meaningful part. A boudoir session gives you the opportunity to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and celebrate everything that makes you uniquely you.
You do not have to wait until you reach a certain goal, change your body, or feel “ready.” You deserve to celebrate yourself today.
For women searching for a Seattle boudoir photographer or a PNW boudoir experience, my goal is to create a comfortable, empowering environment where you feel confident, beautiful, and completely yourself.
Your session is not about becoming someone different. It is about seeing yourself the way others already see you.
